Taylor Swift dropped Reputation today, and as well as sending , her fans have already been theorizing about which songs are about who and what the lyrics actually mean.
Here are eight songs that seemingly reference the goings-on of Taylor's real life, featuring the likes of Calvin Harris, Tom Hiddleston, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, and Joe Alwyn. Of course.
Lyric: "Flashback to when you met me / Your buzz cut / And my hair bleached"
Subject: Joe Alwyn
Reference: When Taylor says "met me," she could be referring to the May 2016 Met Gala, where Joe Alwyn had a shaved head ("your buzz cut") for filming Billy Lynn's Halftime Walk, and Taylor had a peroxide blonde lob ("and my hair bleached").
She was dating Calvin Harris at the time (the pair a month later in June 2016), though it's widely reported that until a Kings of Leon gig in October 2016, which does throw a wrench in this theory.
2. "Getaway Car"
Lyric: "The ties were black / the lies were white / I wanted to leave him, I needed a reason"
"You were driving the getaway car, we were flying but we'd never get far / But with three of us, honey, it's a side show and a circus ain't a love story and now we're both sorry."
Subject: Tom Hiddleston and Calvin Harris
Reference: There's also together at the Met Gala 2016 (the night they reportedly met), hence the "ties were black'" bit. "Getaway Car" could be a metaphor for Tom helping her to escape her relationship with Calvin Harris, which links to the "I wanted to leave him, I needed a reason." Bleak.
Lyric: "Cause I don't want you like a best friend / There is an indentation in the shape of you/ Made your mark on me, a golden tattoo"
Subject: Ed Sheeran
Reference: Yep, really. Has Taylor Swift written a with Ed Sheeran? Some fans definitely think so, thanks to lyric "the shape of you," which could be a reference to Sheeran's "Shape Of You," She also sings about how she doesn't want him as a best friend (Taylor and Ed are historically BFFs), and he's known for having loads of tattoos. Oooh.
4. "I Did Something Bad"
Lyric: "They're burning all the witches even if you aren't one / They got their pitchforks and proof / Their receipts and reasons"
Subject: Kanye West and Kim Kardashian
Reference: This is seemingly a clear nod to , referencing the time they called her out over Kanye's "Famous." At the time, Taylor insisted she hadn't A-okayed his lyric "I think me and Taylor might still have sex / I made that bitch famous." It was only when of Kanye and Swift talking on the phone about it that Swift was outed.
5. "I Did Something Bad"
Lyric: "If he drops my name, then I owe him nothing / If a man talks shit, then I owe him nothing/ If he spends my change, then he had it coming"
Subject: Calvin Harris
Reference: Is Taylor Swift also making a dig at Calvin Harris in "I Did Something Bad?" Cast your minds back to the "This Is What You Came For" drama, and you might remember under the pseudonym Nils Sjoberg, meaning Calvin probably earns more money from the song (hence the "if he spends my change"). Later, when Calvin hit out at Taylor and her team on Twitter, hence "If he drops my name / If a man talks shit."
6. "Don't Blame Me"
Lyric: "I've been breaking hearts a long time, and toying with them older guys just to play things for me to use / Don't blame me, your love made me crazy / My drug is my baby / I'll be using for the rest of my life"
Subject: Joe Alwyn
Reference: Taylor makes reference to the older guys she's dated (Hiddleston is 36, Harris is 33, Swift is 27, and Alwyn is 26), before addressing how in love she is. The lyric "I'll be using for the rest of my life" is talking about the future, so must be referencing a current relationship.
Lyrics: "My reputation's never been worse, so you must like me for me / Dark jeans and your Nikes, look at you / Oh damn, never seen that color blue"
Subject: Joe Alwyn
Reference: As we've touched on, Taylor and Joe met October 2016, following her public feuds with Katy Perry, Kimye and Calvin Harris coming to a head, and her breakup with Tom Hiddleston, which might be why her "reputation's never been worse."
Joe's been papped in "dark jeans and Nikes," and has very, very blue eyes ("never seen that color blue"). So there you go.
8. "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things"
Lyrics: "It was so nice being friends again / There I was giving you a second chance / But then you stabbed my back while shaking my hand"
Subject: Kim Kardashian and Kanye West
Reference: Fans are convinced this lyric is about Taylor's friendship with Kim and Kanye West, as despite Kanye at the MTV VMAs in 2009 to tell the world Beyoncé deserved to win Best Female Video over Taylor, the trio went on to be friends and pictured bonding at red carpet events together. And then, er, "
